Museum Of Pre-Columbian Art
Santiago, Chile 2014
The extended and totally refurbished Museum of Pre-Columbian Art reopened in Santiago Chile in early 2014. Subsequent to an initial consultancy we were asked to design and manage a major new gallery and a complete redesign of the signage and wayfinding system.
New gallery: Chile before Chile
Working together with the architect Smiljan Radic, Geoff Pickup designed a new gallery, which for the first time explores the cultural heritage of a country whose diverse landscape had previously been considered by many as a country of several unconnected traditions.
Objects ‘floating’ in space
The new gallery extends beneath the two entrance courtyards of the museum. Our aim was to display the objects as though floating in space against the backdrop of the dark concrete walls.
